So much for "Due Process"... [Sep. 10th, 2005|02:48 pm]

'Dirty bomb' detention is upheld
A federal judge had ruled earlier this year that Mr Padilla could not be held indefinitely without charge.

Lawyers have argued that the president is exceeding his authority by denying him access to lawyers and courts.

But the government says such detentions are necessary to prevent terrorism in the US.

From what I gather, Mr. Padilla is a US citizen and the government says that because it is suspected that he has ties to al-Qaeda, they have the authority to detain him indefinitely as a military combatant without worrying about the formalities of due process.

Um, what?

I would expect them to have this sort of reaction if they capture someone overseas who happens to be an American citizen. I didn't expect them to take random citizens they suspect and treat them as military prisoners, no.

If it's more bad news, I would rather not, thank you. :)

There is enough bad news today. I don't need nor desire to go back 6 months to find more bad news.

Not 6 months.... 18 months. It's basically your same sense of rage with a tinge of racial profiling and anti-mafia policing.
