Power outages. [Jul. 23rd, 2006|08:27 am]

[Current Mood |grumpygrumpy]

Let me just say for the record that these power outages have already gotten old and cliche. They can stop now. Resetting the time on my clock has already worn off the appeal it had the first time I did this weekend, and the U of my UPS is no longer true. I'm starting to think that either the awful wiring in this house is causing it to barely get enough power to work as a glorified power strip so charging the battery is impossible, or the battery has just gone to hell.

In other news, I think I ought to invest in a new fan. This one squeals like a little girl while the blades are trying to gather some momentum. And by "squeals", I mean makes a horrible high pitched Satan-like shriek that puts a drunken Roger Rabbit to shame.

Question: My right turn signal blinks 2-3 times quicker than my left one. Should I be concerned?

Hey Chaz,

The faster blinking turn signal means that the turn signal light is out. It could just mean that the connection is bad, so try screwing it in a little tighter first, but it probably means that it burned out and you need to get a new turn signal light. You can get it done at most gas stations that have a garage, and if you want to do it yourself, check out your owner's manual. It will tell you what kind of light to buy. Then, go to a Pep Boys kinda place and buy the light. Your manual will also tell you how to get to the light, but usually, it's accessible from a flap or panel in the trunk of the car.

And buy a new fan, you bum! ;)

Check the turn signal bulb in the back when you put it on. Mine did that when the back was blown out, and it works in conjunction with each other.

Ah! I checked the front, but didn't think to check the back. Thanks for the tip!

You should. You get to see me in sparkly silver tights. And, you get to hear me be the voice of God. I don't know how much more incentive I can give you.

What he said about the blinker....but the UPS you have might be a one shot deal. A lot of those small power strip ones have a non-rechargable battery, hence their low-low price.

This one is 3-4 years old, so it's probably due to be replaced anyway.

The SOHO variety definately do not last long.. and even then, what they don't tell you is that the majority of the SOHO units won't even power a modern computer.

You probably need a nice, new 1000va unit.

Oh, I should note that it *could* be something in wiring as well. Some of the better units have sensitivity settings that help them work in various operating environments. The sensitivity settings are esspecially useful if you have a generator.

I've been using it more as a "line filter" than for backup power. For that purpose, it has worked well enough up until now.

Well, I think that your right turn signal is just an overachiever. That's my diagnosis.

I think you lost this game. The problem was a burnt out bulb.
