Moses Hogan died yesterday. Not hip.
I am not a fan of Valentine's Day. This year it isn't for silly reasons like "I'm single". I've listed a few concise reasons why the day sucks, and I plan on outlining these reasons for you people.
- Commercialism
Here we have yet another excuse for excess commercialism. Any meaning the holiday may have once had has been lost over time. - Inequal Obligation
The holiday has largely become "male partner buys female partner stuff" day. If you are going to have a holiday dedicated to the subject of love, it ought to be based on people joining and doing stuff together, not for one another. - Arbitrary deadlines
Valentine's Day motivates people to get a partner by a deadline. I don't think I need to elaborate on why time frames and love do not belong together. - You shouldn't need an excuse.
If you're going to do something nice, do it. Don't do something nice because society tells you that when the earth reaches a certain point around the sun, you just ought to. - People without another someone
Blah blah blah, you've heard this one before.
Eh. It just seems like there's little point to the holiday. Sure, something can be said for having an excuse to go that extra mile, but I don't see how this day cannot be entirely replaced by a little extra effort on everyone's part.
