Progress and Kyle Katan [May. 5th, 2003|11:28 pm]

[Current Music |weezer - Hidden Track]

Ah, it's getting to be that time of the semester when I realize I have lots and lots of studying to catch up on. Well, this semester it's different. Instead, I found myself needing to finish 2 Java labs and 3 C labs (as I'm sure many of you are well aware from my away messages and bitching. :))

Progress on Java's been good. I completed both of those labs tonight.

Sadly, the C labs are much more complicated.

However, after banging my head on one lab for 2 weeks, getting two done in one day is still a nice confidence booster.

That, and knowing that Kyle Katan is a killing machine when he's not being Batman with a lightsaber.

hmm it must be semi odd to switch between C and java, quite diff approaches to lanuage their. back in high school after I learned C++, I thought c was useless, but then I soon after that figured out its faster and still pretty useful, very useful actually, but still pretty tedious. but oh well, its not assembly tedious, at least we can say that.

Java and C

Fortunately, the labs for Java were really easy (as in, translate pseudo-code algorithm into Java that compiles and stick a GUI on top of it), so it was more refreshing than a total gear switch.

I had similiar beliefs concerning C++ vs C back in APCS. This class is actually the first course in pure C I've taken since 'Academic Programming' back Sophomore year of high school. However, APCS didn't cover how to make classes until late into the year, so if you keep classes out of it, C++ is similar enough to C to not be a big jump.

What I suspect is my biggest stumbling block is a lack of discipline on my part. I keep writing up about half of the lab, and then realize that there was a slightly different, much better, and entirely incompatible way I could've gone about the problem, so I'll feel obligated to start over. This could probably be fixed if I spent a longer amount of time planning and less time typing at the keyboard. My plan for tomorrow is to have a mostly fleshed out version on paper by tomorrow evening, so I can then type it up, and hopefully end up with something I like that works.
